Some homemade fun to celebrate Mother’s Day.
With Mother’s Day at the end of next month (March 30th for anyone who isn’t sure), have you started thinking about the type of card that you or your mother or mother-in-law might like to receive?
Baker Ross, the arts and crafts company, sent me some Mum colour-in cards and I thought that the lead-up to Mother’s Day would be an ideal time to use these to get arty with my children. I mean, who doesn’t love a homemade card on Mother’s Day?
My husband worries that presenting handmade cards and gifts might make us look cheap, like we can’t be bothered to pay for a ‘proper’ card or present. I think differently: I believe they’re a great way to showcase children’s growing creativity. While they may not turn out perfectly 100% of the time, making homemade items can be a lot of fun and they show that we care. It’s the thought that’s supposed to count after all.
So I delved into my growing arts and crafts box (every family household should have one!) and brought out felt-tip pens, colouring pencils, stickers, bows, wool and various types of glue. Both Sophia and Dexter got stuck in with gusto.
I also had a go at creating a Mother’s Day card (y’know, just in case my children forget). I made mine a little different by gluing red strands of wool onto the card as hair and then filling in the white space between each strand with red glitter glue. Here’s how our cards turned out.
How do you think we did?
